6th May 2013 - Weston Rhyn to Froncysylltau

Duck woke up when we did, and he had a good squawk. Put him back in his box... checked on him an hour later and the poor little thing had expired :-(  We were both very upset.  On reflection he may have got too cold - the first few nights Annie was up every 2 hours making hot water bottles for him.  With the warmer weather perhaps we had grown complacent....  Anyway we had given it a good try.  Annie dug a small hole at the side of the towpath and we buried him - with daffodil bulbs from out of our planter to mark the spot.

Decided to take our minds off things and go for a bike ride - but Annie developed a puncture and the bike pump refused to work!  Retired instead to the pub....

Continued on towards Llangollen after lunch.  Approaching Chirk the canal follows the side of the Dee valley and there are splendid views of the valley.  The Chirk Aqueduct was stupendous but outclassed by the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct a little further on.

Moored up just beyond Pontcysyllte on a quite section overlooking the valley.  Sat out on the towpath until it got chilly.
Moored at the Lion Quay mega-pub

Crossing the Chirk Aqueduct heading for the tunnel. Railway viaduct to the left.

River valley 126ft below - and no handrail
View back along the way we came....

Dont look down!
